Sustained Investigation
For my sustained investigation, I explored "What are the underlying negative effects of fame?" Fame and celebrity culture have been glamorized in our society and I wanted to explore their flawed aspects. Pieces not only focus on the effects on the celebrities themselves but also criticize the overconsumption of pop culture. Especially as I notice my peers constantly fixate on celebrities and their lifestyles, I wanted to explore the parts of fame that go overlooked by its admirers in my artwork. The various pieces in my portfolio explore a variety of negative aspects of fame in our culture.
While my inquiry initially just focused on fame and celebrity culture, the idea shifted to represent the underlying flaws of the topic as I created more and more pieces. I used dark shadows in my work to illustrate the symbolic "dark side" of fame that my concentration explored (1, 2, 4, 7, 9, & 10). I varied my pieces with the usage of images of actual celebrities (7, 14, & 15) along with silhouettes that represent celebrities (3 & 5). Additionally, as I created my pieces, subcategories developed, such as beauty standards (6 & 13) and the relationship between kids and fame (10, 11, 12, & 15).
